Olive oil is one of the oldest oils known to man and has been used for centuries as a beauty treatment, it is said even Cleopatra used this fabulous substance to nourish her skin. Still popular for both food and beauty this oil is now joined by an ever-growing bevvy of glorious golden liquids that lend so much to the natural beauty industry.
There is nothing better than nourishing your skin with a gorgeous blend of luscious oils. These days we are using oils on our face and body like never before. Many feeling, and rightfully so, that their nourishment surpasses that of a cream-based moisturiser.
It may be personal preference, but the facts speak for themselves. Oil is a superior conduit when it comes to nutrient transference into the skin and the purity that oils bring is something really special.
There is very little added, by way of ingredients, to a ‘good’ natural body or face oil product. It is simply what it says – pure oil. Good brands will use natural plant-based emulsifiers to blend the oils together and if you’re lucky, essential or natural fragrance oils are used to add an aroma. Besides these additives, the oils themselves form the base, middle and top of this pyramid of ingredients.
The only thing you need to ensure is that the oils used as ‘carrier oils’ (those that form the foundation to which the other oils are added) are, in themselves good plant-based ingredients. They should be naturally full of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Oils such as Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Coconut, Olive and Avocado are just a few of our favourites.
Oils are natural carriers of vitamins that repair and protect the skin, as mentioned in the beginning of this article, even a simple olive oil that you drizzle over your salad, has fantastic skin benefits. Oils carry these nutrients straight through the epidermis into the dermis and beyond. This makes them fast-acting and extremely effective.
All oils are not created equal, however, and at Litchi & Titch, we love to boast about the benefits of our two hero ingredient oils – Baobab and Paw Paw. So loved are these pure plant extracts, that we have incorporated them into every one of our body care products.
Baobab oil has wonderful regenerative qualities and is excellent for moisturizing and nourishing skin. This is largely due to the amount of antioxidants found in Baobab, along with vitamins A, B and C.
The other key elements at play here are the amino acids present. This glorious golden oil is rich in omega 3, 6 and 9. These fatty acids are a skin wonder and help with anti-ageing and the suppression of fine lines.
And it doesn’t end there, also in abundance are magnesium, potassium and calcium.
Baobab oil is just as brilliant for you hair as it is for your skin, so lookout for a range of hair care in the future from Litchi & Titch.
PawPaw oil is soothing, calming and very healing. Excellent for problem skins, helping to heal concerns such as eczema, psoriasis and acne scarring. Loaded with antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E as well as rich in magnesium; potassium, niacin, carotene, protein and fibre.
On top of all of this goodness, PawPaw also contains a rare and unique enzyme called Papain. This agitator breaks down proteins into peptides and amino acids, which are extremely rich in nutrients and have strong anti-oxidant benefits. This dense grouping of skin nutrition is said to help reduce pain, calm inflammation, minimize swelling and generally assist with alleviating skin infections.
